National Channel: Treated waters and their impact on the culture of peace

Abstract

Water and the social problems around it are an object of study and reflection to understand the scope they have in daily life, in the organization of social groups and in the management of human relations (Jouravlev et al., 2021). Regarding this, the case of the Canal Nacional in Mexico City draws our attention, a canal that currently contains treated waters, whose layout dates back to pre-Hispanic times and stands out for its survival as a recipient of sewage and after the treatment of its waters, for its impact on various aspects of the lives of its neighbors, as well as for harmonizing social dynamics (Hernández, 2017). Little has been observed about the potential of this hydraulic work in the construction and promotion of a culture of peace (Fisas, 2006) throughout the communities it passes through, therefore, we intend to make a brief review of how this body of water has influenced the transition from cohabiting without interest in the others to the coexistence (conviavility) (Giménez, 2005) as part of the peacebuilding process; to do so, we review the actions carried out around it, emerging organizations, uses of space about it.
