A Crisis of Legitimacy

This article investigates the relationships that have been established between science and postmodernity from the crisis of legitimacy and the great stories analyzed by Jean-Francois Lyotard. Starting from a brief tour of the Weberian idea of disenchantment with the world, we propose a new stage in this historical process that we call the disenchantment of science. The attacks that from the sociology of science and poststructuralist philosophy have been undermining the classical idea of science, reach a climax in the reconfiguration of the lost legitimacy, not to give way to a postmodern science, but to a new legitimacy based on the market and productivity.
