1. General Principles
The Science and Philosophy Journal, committed to the principles of open access and open science, permits and encourages the deposit of the published version (Record Version, RvR) of all its articles in institutional and thematic repositories and open access platforms, without embargo periods, provided that the attribution and citation conditions established in this policy are met.
Self-archiving contributes to increasing the visibility, impact, and preservation of knowledge generated by the academic community, in accordance with the provisions of the General Law on Humanities, Sciences, Technologies, and Innovation and the principles of the National System of Scientific and Humanistic Publications (SNPCyH).
2. Version that can be self-archived

The journal Ciencia y Filosofía expressly permits self-archiving of the published version (VoR) in institutional and thematic repositories.
3. Authorized Repositories
As before, authors can deposit the published version of their articles in the following types of repositories:
Institutional Repositories:
- Institutional Repository of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx)
- Institutional repositories of the co-authors' affiliated institutions
- National and international thematic repositories: Redalyc
- Recognized disciplinary repositories (PhilArchive and Dialnet)
- Open Science Platforms:
- Zenodo (European platform for the preservation of scientific data and publications)
- GitHub (for supplementary materials, research data, or open format versions)
4. Specific Conditions for Zenodo (https://zenodo.org/communities/issn2594-2204/members)
Authors who choose to deposit the published version in Zenodo must comply with the following conditions:
- Metadata Deposit: Include At least the following information is required: article title, full names of the authors, institutional affiliation, ORCID, article DOI, journal ISSN, volume, issue number, page numbers, and year of publication.
- License: The submission must be made under the same license as the journal (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International – CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
- Attribution: Include a full citation of the published article, with the DOI and the following text: "This article was originally published in Ciencia y Filosofía, ISSN: 2594-2204, available at [journal URL]."
- Link to the journal version: Include the DOI or the URL of the article on the journal's official website.
- Unique identifier: Zenodo will automatically assign an additional DOI; it is recommended to link this DOI to the original article DOI using Zenodo's related identifiers feature.
5. Specific Conditions for GitHub
Authors may use GitHub for self-archiving:
- The published version in plain text or Markdown format (not the formatted PDF, to respect editorial integrity).
- Supplementary materials: research data, analysis scripts, high-resolution figures, supplements, etc.
- Derivative versions for educational or reuse purposes, provided they comply with the CC BY-NC-SA license.
Conditions:
- Include a README.md file in the GitHub repository containing:
- The full citation of the article.
- The DOI of the original article.
- The link to the article on the journal's website.
- Explicit mention of the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
- Substantial modification of the content is not permitted without clear attribution. - It is recommended to archive the repository in Zenodo (via the GitHub-Zenodo integration) to obtain a DOI and ensure its permanent preservation.
6. GitHub – Zenodo Integration
The journal recommends that authors use the native integration between GitHub and Zenodo to:
1. Connect their GitHub repository to their Zenodo account.
2. Configure automatic archiving of each GitHub release in Zenodo.
3. Obtain a DOI for each version of the repository (including supplementary materials).
4. Cite the repository in the main article.
Suggested procedure:
- Create a repository in GitHub for the article's supplementary materials.
- Configure the integration with Zenodo (Settings > Zenodo).
- Release the repository.
- Zenodo will assign a DOI and permanently preserve the content. - Include this DOI in the "Supplementary Material" or "Research Data" section of the article.
7. General Self-Archiving Conditions
In all cases of self-archiving the published version, the following must be observed:
- Attribution: Cite the article as follows:
Last Name, First Initial. (Year). Title of the article. Science and Philosophy, Volume(Number), Pages. DOI: xxxxx
- Acknowledgment of the original source: Include the text: "Originally published in Science and Philosophy (ISSN: 2594-2204)," with a link to the article on the journal's website.
- License: The deposit must be made under the same license as the published article (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
- Non-commercial use: The content may not be used for commercial purposes without the express authorization of the journal and the authors.
- Share alike: Any adaptation or remix must be distributed under the same license.
8. Digital Preservation
The journal Ciencia y Filosofía ensures the digital preservation of its content through:
- Archiving in LOCKSS/CLOCKSS (distributed preservation system).
- Automatic deposit of metadata and XML/JATS versions of articles in Zenodo.
- Systematic submission to institutional and thematic repositories.
9. Benefits of Self-Archiving for Authors
Self-archiving in repositories such as Zenodo and GitHub offers authors:
- Greater visibility and impact of their work globally.
- Long-term preservation of their publications.
- Compliance with the requirements of funding agencies and scientific evaluation systems.
- The ability to share supplementary materials (data, code, figures).
- Improved citation by facilitating free access to the full text.
